“I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.”
-Jimmy Buffet
New year, new me? Not quite. (And, for the record, I detest that expression.)
Much as we might strive to improve in all facets of life, I can assure you, there is seldom a magical transformation which occurs on any single given day of the year.
We are each respective works in progress, making countless adjustments along the way, learning from our mistakes and taking steps to improve upon the past.
As Salvador Dali once mused, “Have no fear of perfection—you’ll never reach it.” A fact we would all do well to keep in mind on a daily basis, as we undoubtedly allow ourselves to become frustrated by cracks in the foundation we continually attempt to build.
I’ve recently taken to jumping on the “366” bandwagon (yes, 2020 is a leap year), making an effort to feature one photograph per day as a sort of bookmark between pages—something simple, yet capturing a moment of life as it currently exists.
The hope is that, by maintaining this schedule of snapshots, the collection will ultimately morph into something of a natural retrospective of my journey through the year.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
One photo. One goal. One day at a time.
